2nd folkloric festival in Syros

The members of THE CULTURAL CLUB “ THE PEOPLE OF PONTOS AND NORTH GREECE” who live in SyrosGreece, are organizing their 2nd folkloric festival. It will take place from  26th July to 3rd August, 2013, and aims to promote and preserve the cultural heritage of its people.

This year’s theme features <<The Paths of the Greeks>> including dances from the area of PontosCyprus, as well as the greek-speaking villages of Southern Italy.
The seminar illustrates traditional wear of Cyprus and Pontos , provides feedback on their historical background, as well as dancing instruction.

To start with, we have gladly invited the folk dancing club of the Cypriots from Achea. Indeed, Zonia Marilena and Poliviou Vaggelis  will be teaching those interested in the enchancing atmosphere of the dances of Cyprus.Furthermore, John Efremidis, who has taken the spirit of Pontos as far as Alaska, will communicate the dominating steps of this land with us. Last but not least, the music band Encardia will encourage us to follow them in the “tarantela” , a mostly distinct dance of South Italy, the origins of which date back to the ancient colony of “Taranta”, close to the contemporary cities of Printezi and Letse, as well as the greek-speaking villages of Salento. Indeed, characteristics of  “grecanic” are evident in the locals’ dialect. As it appears the greek-speaking population in the surrounding regions have kept and preserved them as part of their cultural identity.

Our club has chosen to hold this year’s meeting in Posidonia, one of the most cosmopolitan holiday spots on the island, the essence of which is still evident in the surrounding estates and the long-lasting cultural activities of the area.
While being on holiday, the visitors of the island will have the opportunity to experience a number of cultural events which aim to present the preservation of a wealth of traditions and historical memories.

We should note that a minimum of 8 participants is required to attend the dancing seminars. Our club will schedule them according to request and registration.

Therefore, reservations are possible up to the 1st of July.

To confirm participation, a deposit of 50euros is required at the account number of the bank of Cyprus. ΙΒΑΝ GR 3207301670000000038911047 .BIC : BCYPGRAA.
